( Paul Writes ) I hope that your singing - and indeed all your other - activities are flourishing? I'd love to share a few new demo recordings with you. If you have time and inclination to check out these links, I'd be delighted. The scores are on the screen in these youtube demos, so there's nothing stopping you from singing along. Go on, go on, go on. *May our voices* (SSA or SATB and piano) recently commissioned by the choir EénvanZin in The Netherlands "May our voices become a blessing to all who hear our song / May our singing resound within us, as we travel on..." *Monetisation* (2-part voices and piano) words by Brian Bilston, used by permission The ad said MONETISE YOUR FOLLOWERS so he thought he would respond by painting them in the changing light like waterlilies in a pond 'As I went out one May morning* (three voices a cappella: SSA or TBarB) part of my ongoing series of folksong arrangements... *Make us instruments of thy peace* (SATB unaccompanied) - well-known words, but in plural-pronoun form - because it's all of us who are involved in this endeavour, right? and finally, for fun, for piano: *A Miniature Prelude, Adagio & Fugue on the Peppa Pig theme tune* You may recall that in Peppa Pig, Series 2, episode 38, "Grandpa's Little Train", when Granny Pig exclaims: "A little toy train!" Grandpa replies: "It's not a toy! This is Gertrude. She's a mi-ni-a-ture lo-co-mo-tive." (Emphasising all eight syllables with justifiable pride.) By the same token, this is not a silly little piece for toy piano. It's a Mi-ni-a-ture Com-po-si-tion... Please check out my website for more info, or reply direct if you'd like to request perusal scores, suggest a commission, or chat about contrapuntal potential in music from other children's TV programmes! https://www.paulayres.co.uk/catalogue Paul A |

![]() The Addison Singers Classical Choirs present a choral winter feast for all to enjoy! The Chamber Choir perform the winter-themed movements of Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year, Poulenc’s Quatre Motets pour le temps de Noël and the ever-popular carol Sir Christèmas! in a setting by William Mathias. Meanwhile the Oratorio Choir present one of the choral repertoire’s most kaleidoscopic and colourful pieces, Poulenc’s Gloria and a soon to be modern classic, Bob Chilcott’s Christmas Oratorio. This is a retelling of, arguably, the most famous story ever told. We look forward to welcoming you to our concert in December where we will be joined by a stellar line-up of soloists and instrumentalists. M. T. Morgan Welcome Welcome to our Winter Concert 2024 combining the forces of the Chamber and Oratorio Choirs. In the summer we were proud to join with the Jazz Choirs of the Addison Singers to present Festival of Music which offered us new and exciting performance opportunities. We covered a wide range of musical styles and showcased individuals performing in both Jazz and Classical styles. This evening, we are delighted to present a programme showcasing seasonal music for Winter and Christmas. The Chamber Choir complete the cycle of songs by Jonathan Dove The Passing of the Year focusing on those related to Autumn, Winter and the turning of the year. They will also present Poulenc’s Quatre Motets pour le temps de Noël which focus on different elements of the Christmas story. The Chamber Choir introduce our concert with Sir Christèmas! a rousing invocation of the season. The Oratorio Choir take on a modern classic and an oratorio which surely will become a staple of the choral repertoire. Poulenc’s Gloria is as exhilarating as it is intricate, a wonder of word-setting and harmonic colour, something truly as kaleidoscopic as the lights on a Christmas tree! Meanwhile, Bob Chilcott’s Christmas Oratorio is a modern adaptation of the Christmas story, vibrant and heartfelt in equal measure. These pieces are all characterised by their wide textural and dramatic scope. We very much hope that you enjoy the programme. M. T. Morgan 24.vii.2024 |

![]() Sing Bach’s Mass in b minor with full orchestra Our friendly annual festival takes place in Heptonstall, above Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. This choral and orchestral gathering making the most of an inspiring setting for preparing and performing three concerts during the week for the paying public. Musicians from across the country come together to rehearse and perform and socialise. Our Choral Director Keith Orrell says: Our 2025 repertoire focuses on J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor, a great choral masterpiece of the Baroque era. It is challenging and very satisfying to sing: a “must” on all choral singers’ wish-lists. In contrast, we will also experience the emotional depth and power of four great Italian and Russian opera choruses, with full symphony orchestra. And at the start of the week, we will learn two lovely famous English part-songs. Something to satisfy every choral taste! Rehearsing this music will be a major endeavour, especially the Mass. So, we very much want singers to join rehearsals from the start on Monday 26 May ahead of the Bach performance on Thursday 30 May. It will be preceded by a short contribution in the Tuesday concert earlier in the week, and followed with the singing of the opera choruses in the final concert on the Saturday. An action-packed week of fun and stimulating choral singing. I hope that our Festival will attract your members to Heptonstall. Hebden Bridge. It is three and half hours by train from London, and about four hours drive.
